OHSS & Embryo update

I knew that I was at risk due to the amount of follicles but I wasn't super ready for the way I am feeling at the moment. First let's start with the way that I look. My stomach appears to be four months pregnant, which would be awesome if I was pregnant. And to top it all off I waddle as well! Taking a full breath is out of the question. I haven't had a bm since Tuesday morning and I know that I need to but due to the soreness in my stomach.. ouch. A girl at work is going to get me some Milk of Magnesia in a few minutes to see if that helps anything along. I have gained over three pounds but I am keeping track to make sure it isn't more than 3 a day. If it calms down we will have a five day transfer on Sunday. If it keeps getting worse this cycle is canceled and we will have to freeze the embryos and do a FET. Of course I am praying for the OHSS to calm down and do the transfer on Sunday (the day before my birthday). If we have to freeze the embryos I may have a meltdown. I have went through all of the discomfort and pain to get to this point!

Yesterday morning we got the fertilization report and out of the 18 mature eggs 15 fertilized. Today when I got the call I was so nervous to find out how many had stopped growing. Well to my surprise the other three caught up and we now have 18 embryos! At least something is going right!

I want to thank Courtney for all of the great advice and help to get me through the OHSS. I had beef jerky and Gatorade for breakfast, milk of magnesia as a snack, and I will be having chicken noodle soup, peanut butter and another beef jerky by the end of the day.

Your good thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated!

  1. I got pretty intense OHSS too and my new mantra became "be the bloat." I haTED not having bm (it took 5 days) more caused it freaked me out. Try collace too-it's super gentle but helps get stuff moving. Wow 3 caught up?? I never had that! How cool. I'm sensing a day 5!

    1. Haha. I am 100% living that mantra for sure. It will be interesting to see what the milk of magnesia does. :(

So far so good on the day 5! I sent you an email.. :)

  2. That's AWESOME news about the embryos! How FABULOUS! 100% fertilization... WOW!

So sorry to hear about the OHSS! I'm so scared of getting it. All of the doctors I visited kind of told me to bank on it. In fact, one of them advised planning for a Lupron injection and a scheduled FET... bummer. Hoping that everything calms down and your Sunday transfer is a breeze! Hang in there!

    1. Thanks Amanda for the concern, it isn't fun at all but will be worth it in the end. And I agree 100% is super crazy! I will be cheering for you!

  4. Ugh! Im sorry your OHSS is not being nice. What I noticed with me is that water actually made it worst. My Dr told me to stay away from it too. I was waddling as well and it was super uncomfortable. I did have a bm though about 3 or 4 days after my retrieval. IMO it doesnt really help with the ugly feeling of OHSS. Just take it easy and try to put ur feet up as much as possible.

Nice fertilization report. I didnt have embryos catch up until after my transfer--4 more made it to blast and were frozen giving us a total of 9 +1 that was transfer to freeze. GL!

  5. You poor thing! Hopefully the milk of magnesia does some good and you are able to have a bm soon. That's so amazing that you had 100% fertilization rate! I'm really hoping and praying that your OHSS calms down so you can transfer on Sunday and not have to do a FET!

  8. So happy for you and your awesome fert rate. Woot! Hoping the icky feelings pass soon. I second the Colace if the MoM doesn't do it for you.

  9. Woohoo!!! 100% fertilization is such a blessing!!!!!

I developed OHSS with every retrieval and it sucked. I would recommend adding a stool softener to your post-retrieval regimen. Anything OTC should be fine and will really help. Hope you feel better soon!

  10. Yay for the fertilization report!!! I had OHSS as well and my RE actually called in a prescription which helped so much! I will try and find out the name of it for you. Praying for the 5 day transfer as well.

  11. Hopefully you won't need to freeze, but if you do my RE actually told me that sometimes there can be higher rates of success in a frozen cycle because the body isn't just coming down off of a pile of abnormal hormones like in a fresh cycle. An FET can be a bit more like what happens naturally. Sounds like you should hopefully have lots of embryos though!

  12. Hope you are feeling better soon! I have never had OHSS but it does not sound fun!

What is the consensus on FET vs. fresh? I always had it in my head that FETs were more successful because if they make it through the thaw they are A+ embryos. I don't know where that thought came from though. How many will you transfer? Either way it sounds like you have a few tries at it so that is great! Good luck!

    1. FET's are good as well because your body has calmed down from the stims... But we bought a one fresh one frozen cycle. We will loose the money from our fresh if it is canceled. And I really have my heart set on Sunday... :(
